There is evidently much more to the .Sony disk driver than is described in Inside Macintosh. When you DIVerify() a volume and it reports bad blocks, how can you tell which blocks are the guilty parties? You can't! Certain utilities, such as ScanDisk, seem to be able to determine this. I tried to answer this question by disassembling ScanDisk, but the result was unenlightening.
