[net.micro.mac] Misc: Imagewriter; HFS Backup; Rebuild-Desktop...

A question and 2 comments:

o Using a 512K, Apple HD20, old ROM, System 3.2, Imagewriter
2.3 and Imagewriter I configuration I find that when printing in
draft mode (from Lightspeed Pascal) (but ONLY in Draft mode) the
printing is often interrupted by the "...Imagewriter is not
responding..." dialog box. If I de-select/re-select the
Imagewriter and click OK, it starts back up again and works fine
for awhile. Any ideas on WHY?

o Regarding HFS Backup, I too notice that it really wants memory!
Since I have the old ROMS HFS routines take up even more RAM
(I've been afraid to figure out how much) but HFS Backup works
fine. However, if I also have Macsbug installed (about 40K) it
complains (a nice dialog box) during program startup.

o Regarding the individual who was having problems with
rebuilding the desktop from the HD20, I too had a FIT the first
time I saw this (prior to the HFS Backup days), but stumbled upon
booting from the startup FLOPPY (hold down the mouse button after
the 'smiling Mac' appears until you get the desktop, and holding
down the Option key to get the 'rebuild' dialog (say NO to
rebuilding the floppy and keep that Option key down!)). As long
as the HD20 is not the top icon it should work OK, but BOY did
that cause me grief the first time!! Does anybody know if this
problem still exists if you're using the new ROMS (and hence no
startup floppy)?

Enjoy,

Jeff Harrow
