Well, yesterday I exchanged the AST-2000 (w/tape backup) that I bought the day before for the HD-20SC hard disk drive from Apple. It seems a fairly nice drive, only slightly larger than the HD-20 (certainly smaller than the AST-2000 whose tape drive drove me nuts--couldn't format/initialize tapes). I don't know how it compares to other drives (like the dataframe 20 that "everyone" seems to be buying), but it seems as if Apple is trying for a rather odd sort of IBM compatibility: IT IS LOUD!! -- reminds me of an (*ugh*) IBM PC XT. ( :-) ) I was certain that it was going to take off from the surface of my desk last night. :-) Might try some padding under- neath ... The noise may not be a problem in a not TOO quiet office environment--at home, it drowns everything else out!! Of course, I'm rather picky. If I can hear it at all, it's too loud. I thought the HD20 was too loud. So was the HyperDrive. The IBM RT is not to be believed! It sure would have been nice if it had come with a cable/terminator-- but maybe there are people who are going to want more than one of them and will require differing cable configurations/lengths. I wonder-- can I get a longer cable and hide the drive somewhere I can't hear it? (like in the next room) :-) Dave -- Dave Thompson uucp: {ihnp4|hplabs|psivax}!csun!dlt CSUN Computer Center phone: (818) 885-2790 18111 Nordhoff Street, Northridge, CA 91330
