I have watched the "Truth" and "Beauty" segments of "Six Great Ideas", and I do think they are stimulating viewing. It sounds like a recipe for the most boring TV ever, but the hour goes by quickly. I have an ambivalent reaction to Mortimer Adler. He is very sharp, but his ideas are utterly conventional. The "Truth" segment never came near any of the problems raised by modern developments in physics and mathematics. Also, he seems very sure of his pat stances on these issues. Irksome, but he is effective at directing the discussion. The panel seems more sophisticated in their views many times, but I think Mortimer is not to be underestimated. When the title: I. TRUTH came up on the screen in the first show, I felt like I was watching Monty Python. This may be a case, like playing Sousa at halftime, where everyone assumes the subject is hackneyed, so no one ever actually does it. Lew Mammel, Jr. ihuxr!lew
