I am trying to get as much information as I can on using a generic SCSI drive with a Mac. As far as I know, the SCSI developer's information from Apple was in the March 1986 software supplement. I have recently joined the APDA, and I want to order the right package from them to get the SCSI stuff. It looks like the right one is the "Macintosh Development Utilities 1.0" listed on page 10 of the August, 1986 APDAlog. If anyone knows for sure that that is the right one, please let me know via email. I would like to hear from anyone out there who has successfully gotten a generic non-mac-supported SCSI drive working with their Mac. Please tell me what path you followed to accomplish this. I will summarize anything I get on the net. On a related note, does anyone know what it takes to add a Mac+ compatible SCSI port to a Mac 512e? It seems to me that there would be quite a few Mac owners who don't want to shell out the bucks for a Mac+ upgrade, but would like to get an SCSI drive hooked up. I would assume that all that is needed is access to the right address and data lines, some chips to decode the address for the NCR SCSI chip, and possibly some drivers to drive the cable wires that go to the outside. Supermac offers such a board for $99 to those that purchase Dataframe drives, but I think they charge $299 for the same board if you aren't buying a Dataframe. I would like to homebrew one. I will appreciate any help offered to me, and I will post a description of the information I get. Bryan F. Carpenter Hewlett-Packard Co. {hplabs,ihnp4}!hpfcla!hplvla!bfc (303)667-5000 ext. 2349
