To MacEqn users (and potential users): On Monday, Nov.10, Software for Recognition Technologies will be releasing version 2.0 of MacEqn, the Macintosh Equation Processor. (Assuming no major bugs show up in testing before then.) All currently registered owners will receive a letter of notification. All site license owners will receive the new version within 2 weeks of release. MacEqn is a desk accessory that allows you to create reasonably complicated equations for pasting into technical documents. Version 2.0 adds support for auto-centering of the equation and a special tab to define an equation number position. Also, all Group characters are now drawn with graphics rather than using upscaled characters. Braces and parenthesis look pretty good on the LaserWriter. Also, the way the keyboard reads keystrokes has been changed in an effort to correct problems with Dvorak and international keyboards. Also, you can copy a section of an equation to the clipboard rather than the entire equation if desired. Pasting into MacEqn occurs at the insertion point. TEXT can be imported. Editing is still limited. You can correct typographical errors, but editing is not adequate for transforming one equation into another one. Due to the time and effort involved with update requests, SRT has been forced to change their update policy. To receive an update to version 2.0, send your master disk to them with an update fee of $12.00.
