In my old town, numbering was supposed to be done on the basis of how far your front door was from the dividing street. Thus if you were 360 feet from that street, your number was 36. If you were a mile from the street, the number was 528. I never was told how they figured northeast or southwest streets! Rick Lindsley uwvax!rodolf

When we lived in Tokyo, our house number was 2318. The house next door was something in the 1100's. In Japan, buildings are numbered in the order that they're built and registered in the ward directory. You've got to have respect for the mailmen who delivered your mail correctly.
