[net.music] Bronski Beat video

I wouldn't normally post an article about a video, since I find at least
90% of them useless, but somebody asked recently about Bronski Beat videos,
and the one I've seen, "Smalltown Boy" is worth mentioning. It's one of the
best videos I've ever seen. In fact, it's pretty well exactly what I figured
a video should be after I'd heard that they existed but before I'd seen any.
The video tells the story of the song, but not by merely depicting the lyrics
line-by-line. Rather the picture and the song compliment each other very
well so that you get a much better understanding of the story by watching the
video than you would by just listening to the song or just watching the
video without the music. It does this very effectively too; I actually felt
sorry for the guy during the video, though none of it really sunk in just
listening to the lyrics. (Not that I couldn't tell what the song was about.
I could, but it just didn't sink in as much as the video.) Another thing
I really liked about it was that there was no lip-synching at all. No matter
how well singers lip-synch, it still irritates me, probably because I get the
feeling they're trying to fool me.
