std-mumps Digest Thu, 16 May 85 Volume 1 : Issue 16 Today's Topics: mdc miscellaneous ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 13 May 85 10:48:11 pdt From: ihnp4!ucbvax!ucdavis!clover!walters (Dick Walters) Subject: mdc miscellaneous To: std-mumps@plus5.UUCP I haven't contributed to the network news, but it now appears time to do so for various reasons. 1. ANSI Standard is being printed now. I am responsible for the printing, and it is being done under my auspices, but MUG office is working with me on it. Actual date should be before MDC meeting in June. details later, but as far as i know all is at the printers now. 2. I learned one important piece of information from ANSI: It IS possible to submit a revision for the current standard before the five year period normally between revisions. In other words, we can submit, through the regular canvass process, the NEW, paramater passing, Block structuring, and possibly Network modifications whenever we are ready with them. For this reason, I urge speedy resolution of all the above so that we can get a new modification paper together. The flurry of activity showing up in this newsletter reflects in part a recognition of that fact. The word needs to get out as soon as possible to others. I look forward to an active discussion on networking in June, hoping to resolve the name-space, routine/global (not remote job) aspects to a point where they can be at least type b releases. Jack Bowie has done good work in tieing together block structuring and other elements, and with the incentive of a possible modification being incorporated into the Standard (up to three such modifications can be submitted between 5-year reviews, but heaven help us if we do more than one), I foresee an active MDC meeting. see you there.
