[net.misc] soul

Is there a soul? If so does it have properties? If so what are they?

The soul is a joint creation of an individual's mind and the spirit of
God. It is the embodiment of all one's good, positive , "altruistic"
moral decisions. It is the vehicle for life after material death.
The soul is often mistaken for the spirit of God which dwells within
all of us. This part of God within us is responsible for our insight,
moral courage, and "gut feeling".

Please state your supporting evidence for these assertions.

I really should know better so please flame to /dev/null but I cannot
help myself. If the part of God within us is responsible for "gut-feeling"
then we are in trouble. Surely Hinckley (remember him) had a gut feeling to
demonstrate his love for Jodi. Surely Arafat has a gut feeling that it is
OK to kill anyone he wants to further his political aims. Surely,.......
Enough of that. Here's a softer topic we may want to discuss. I may
even get enough energy together to actually produce a definitive first
article soon.
Studies are showing a growing trend from product oriented society to an
information oriented society. As a first thought, this seems to obliterate
capitalism and communism since you can steal an idea and not actually
remove a physical object. (Steal a product [ a can of tuna?] and you have
one more and they have one less).
Well, enough rambling. Sorry about the soul and "part of God" comments
but this is a mini flame, mini comment.

My supporting "evidence" for my soul assertions is faith,
the revealed word of God and human fallibility.

Regarding Alan Silversteins quote from Meher Baba:

While the Hindu (Eastern) cosmological view of the human
soul as being continuous with all life/consciousness is
intriguing, I could never swallow the "all we see is
Illusion" part.

While many believe that what we see as the "real universe"
is not absolute but merely one of many alternate realities,
and is a consensus that we humans have agreed to and pass
on to our children, this particular manifestation of reality
is as "real" as the rest of the universe/God.

Gut feeling is the human reaction (good or bad) to the divine spark

But doesn't it take a lot of faith, given human fallibility, to
believe that the word was revealed by God? If you have that much
faith, then how do you tell which word of which God was correctly
revealed? It seems to be a solipsistic kind of evidence.

The information society will probably further capitalism, since capitalism
is the only means devised to date whereby wealth is created; the term "to
make money" doesn't exist in the collectivist societies.

It is only in statist/static economic systems where taking something from
someone else is condoned, and where "one more for me means one less for
you". Capitalism says, "Let's make 'em cheap enough so that we all can
have two or three, and there's no need to steal."

It IS interesting to speculate, however, on what means of distribution
of wealth might supplant our own system. [We leave out the obvious
failures of the collectivist "system", which of course is merely a modern
label for the ancient system of tyranny/feudalism. No way will they
supplant us; they can't even hold together the miserable little cliques
they now have. If we ever decide seriously to stop underpinning them,
they would die altogether. The worst they could do is destroy us ; no
way can they compete with us.]

For instance--when there are fifty robots for every person, does each
of us have "slaves"? Does Uncle Sam own all the robots, or does the UAW
or GM? What happens?

And also--when the SOD vaccine is available to everyone else and we all
live to 120, will they push retirement age up to 95?

Until the 21st century--
