[net.misc] parse date string????

ewp (01/29/83)

Occasionally articles on the net have titles which end in "parse date string"
or something like that. What does this mean? Is it some inside joke that I
don't get or does some software always tack that on?

                               ?????????,

I have had the "parse date string" thing appear in titles of
articles I have posted, and just now had "spell" inserted in
the title of another. What is going on? I use "inews" to
post articles, and we use B news here. Thanks.

I have noticed that "parse date string" often occurs on our system
here when following up an article. Without any real proof, I can
only guess that that the data space used for the followup title is
adjacent to the error message "Cannot parse date string". Somehow,
the title does not get null-terminated and usually overwrites "Cannot";
hence the title: "Re: Foobar cannot parse date string". Only a SWAG.
