I am sorely tempted to deny the existence of my sister state, NORTH DAKOTA since (by your criteria) I: a) have never been to North Dakota b) don't plan to ever go to North Dakota c) don't have any North Dakota soil as physical evidence However, friends, I bring good news -- there are other states in the union besides California and New York! I hail from SOUTH DAKOTA (Rapid City, pop. 46K). South Dakota, of course, is well known for Mount Rushmore, the Badlands, and other scenic wonders. I hope it will never sink into oblivion like NORTH DAKOTA!!! I'm sure that NORTH DAKOTA is up there somewhere above SOUTH DAKOTA. -BOBBIE (ROHRS) MADSEN- ...ucbvax!amd70!bobbie

Are you sure North Dakota isn't just a conspiracy on the part of people from South Dakota promulgated to justify naming their state \South/ Dakota instead of the vastly less-interesting "Dakota"?? Then again, since you're from South Dakota, you probably wouldn't tell us even if it was, right? ----------------------- Matt Landau (...decvax!genradbolton!wjh12!mjl)

I have recieved many comments via mail that Wall Drug is in South Dakota... I knew that... What I had suggested was that North Dakota was, in fact, part of the back lot of Wall Drugs (In Wall, South Dakota), along with the dinosaurs, old trains and ghost town. I have been to a place that I was told was North Dakota, but I was there immediately after leaving Wall, and was at a young and impressionable age. Daniel Glasser ...!decvax!sultan!dag

Matt Landau is right! North Dakota is a hoax to justify the naming of South Dakota. Who ever heard of Lower Volta? No one even knows which of the two (Dakotas) got statehood first. Loving every minute of pointless debate Robert A Zimmermann (..!idis!mi-cec!raz )

If we're going to put down each others home states, lets do it right. There are supposed to be some great state-versus-state jokes flying around the country (anyone who's seen the Tonight show lately has heard some of them). Let's get on the ball USENET . . .

North Dakota *might* be there, I saw a sign in Wyoming saying it was close. (But to believe that, you also have to believe that Wyoming is there too. Bret Marquis U.C. San Diego

There is a small joke floating around here in California about Wyoming; "Wyoming, the state where Men are Men and Sheep are Nervous." I doubted that this had much redeeming social value, but it is pertinent to an evaluation of the state. Jack of Shadows. (UCSD)

But I KNOW Wyoming is there. I've spent many bored hours driving through it on I-80. Anything which can create that much boredom must be real. (You know Wyoming - the state where you MUST stop at every stop on the interstate to get gas.) =Spencer

Now hold on there. I was in wyoming not more than two years ago, specifically at the Grand Teton Lodge, near Jackson, Wyo. Absolutely beautiful country and it \does/ exist! Now U.C. San Diego, on the other hand... Erik E. Fair ucbvax!fair fair@Berkeley The University of California at Berkeley

I do not know about N.D. but in Wyoming, Yellowstone National Park is certainly real and beautiful! Mike Yip Megatest Corporation, Santa Clara, California.

I thought we had agreed that if a place was on the net, it existed! Really, we're here! (at least I think we are)...on the other hand, maybe there's just me, and the rest of us are delusions caused by an overdose of UNIX... hallucinating as usual, Lady Arwen of... U.C.S.D.?....????

On the other hand, we at U.C. San Diego are certain that the "articles" coming from "ucbvax" are actually from ndvax, but they just don't want to admit it. Certain that I'm real, Nate Lee (sdccsu3!ee173bl)

#R:amd70:-39700:harpo:19500002:000:870 harpo!mes Jan 28 17:42:00 1983 New Jersey???? Naw, there is really no New Jersey at all! New Jersey does not exist!!! It is really four seperate states: (1) Beautiful pine forests of South Jersey, (2) Lovely hills and forests of North Jersey, (3) a six mile wide strip cutting from northeast to southwest surrounding the New Jersey Turnpike, and (4) a six mile wide strip, with some irregular blobs, that is alternately called either the GSP (Garden State Parkway) or Union/Passaic/Bergen counties. Lets face it folks, nowhere else in the world can you go from a highly toxic carcinogenic atmosphere to an absolutely quiet, totally beautiful pine forest in less than an hour? Where are you from?
