[net.misc] all religions

Ms Arwen says all religions contain at least two components.
"belief in an overbeing", "an ethical/moral system".
I am not an authority but I believe one of the big five, ie Buddhism, contains
neither.

Buddhism's "way" could be construed to be an ethical/moral system, since it
dictates they manner in which one should live in order to achieve enlighten-
ment.

Lady Arwen *is* correct. Buddhism - pure Buddhism - is not
a religion, but a philosophy. Many Buddhists, though, also
believe in gods, or superhuman beings, or spirits, often
borrowed from 'neighboring' religions. But if you were to
ask a Buddhist monk whether s/he believes in a Buddhist
god, the answer is likely to be "no." Incidentally,
Buddhists do not worship the Buddha.
