My understanding about the association of Satan (the beast) with the number 666 (maybe not explicitly six hundred sixty six, per se) is that it comes from a verse in the New Testament (book of Revelations). Can someone provide the exact wording? Does anyone know what the version in the original language (Hebrew? Greek?) might have referred to? All I remember from the passage is "it is the number of a man... the number is 666". Can someone clarify?

The reference to "The Number of the Beast" is Revelation 13:18. If I may be so bold to quote the New English Translation of Revelation 13:11 - 18 in order to put this in context. "Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth. It had two horns like a lamb's horns, and it spoke like a dragon. (12) It used the vast authority of the first beast in its presence. It forced the earth and all who live on it to worship the first beast, whose fatal wound had been healed. (13) This second beast performed great miracles; it made fire come down out of heaven to earth, in the presence of all men. (14) And it deceived all the people living on the earth by means of the miracles which it was allowed to perform in the presence of the first beast. The beast told all the people of the world to build an image in honor of tthe beast that had been wounded by the sword, and yet lived. (15) TThe second beast was allowed to breathe life into the image of the first beast, so that the image could talk and put to death all those who would not worship it. (16) The beast forced all men, small and great, rich and poor, slave and free, to have a mark placed on their right hands and on their foreheads. (17) No one could buy or sell unless he had this mark, that is, the beast's name or the number thatt stands for the name. (18) This calls for wisdom. Whoever is intelligentt can figure out the meaning of the number of the beast, because the number stands for a man's name. Its number is six hundred and sixty-six." Various books have been published in the last 10 years concerning this particular prophacy. The best known is probably "The Late Great Planet Earth" by Hal Lindsey. Jeff Willians BTL - Indian Hill

The Number of the Beast may indeed be 666, but Satan's numbers are 666-666-6666 and 666-66-6666.

To answer, "what is Satan's number?". If memory serves, the "number" is that of the AntiChrist. "Let him who hath understanding hear me--the number of the Beast is six hundred threescore and six." Numerologically speaking, it is sometimes claimed that the Greek alphabet characters contained numerical significance, and that the actual spelling itself, not the number 666, contains the 'real' number of the beast. At least one book claims that the 'beast' was the body of Christ, and the warning was that one should worship the word and not the body of Christ to avoid trouble. --arlan andrews/american bell/indy/lunch hour
