[net.misc] Newsgroup specialization survey -- please read, thanks

rcj (02/06/83)

a) I sit through 250+ articles on religion in net.misc

b) I sit through God-knows-how-many-but-doesn't-care articles on
	philosophy in net.misc

c) I sit through tens of articles on whether or not to create newsgroups
for these two areas, and if so which one or should it be both?

d) The newsgroups are created (I think). Now must I sit through
	interminable articles concerning:

	1) Should religion/philosophy/both have been created?
	2) Should they have been combined?
	3) Should they both stay around?
	4) Should we combine them now?
	5) If we should delete one, which one should it be?
	6) If we combine them, what do we call the combined group?
	7) What should go in religion, and what in philosophy?
	8) Any question(s) I forgot to mention in 1-7 above go here.

Come on, people!!! I hereby volunteer to collect, via electronic mail,
replies to the net survey question of the year:

	How specialized should newsgroups be?

I am sure that a lot of people besides me have run across the problem
of, say, an article concerning a new investment alternative that
gives you a tax break. Does this article go in net.invest or net.taxes?
And, if we eliminate this problem by creating net.money;
what about people like me who have to really limit their netnews intake
due to time considerations at work and are only interested in invest?

Please send to ME, NOT TO POOR OVERWORKED net.misc; it has lately come
to more closely resemble net.endless_discussion.

An additional note: any mail I get knocking one of the new groups in a
manner even approaching the intolerance of this one:

	[Re: net.religion]
'Shouldn't discussion of this subject fall under
	the existing newsgroup net.jokes?'

will be sent to /dev/null at top speed. I'm looking for real answers
to a real problem; not idealogical assassinations, jokes, or sarcasm.

Thanks in advance for any replies,
