[net.wanted.sources] Automated Generation of Data flow diagrams and other similar tools

savage@ssc-vax.UUCP (Lowell Savage) (04/18/85)

I am interested in any information on software packages (public
domain or otherwise) that can be used for generating/editing
graphics/text diagrams such as data flow diagrams, structure
charts etc. I know that Tektronix has a set of tools that run
under UNIX which they call "SA" (for "System Analysis").

I am particularly interested in any of tools such as these that
might work on such hardware as IBM/PC and/or Mentor/Apollo.

	My net address is uw-beaver!ssc-vax!savage
My phone is (206)773-0664 (That's in WA--the state),
	My (USPS) address is:
		L. C. Savage
		M/S 8H-57
		The Boeing Company
		POB 3707
		Seattle, WA 98124

All the usual disclaimers and notes about UNIX, Tektronix, and SA
	apply.

There's more than one way to be savage.

Recently there were several requests for software in support of structured
analysis and structured design. I am currently involved in a search for
software tools which support structured analysis. This tool search is being
performed for the Wang Institute Software Environment (WINSE), which is a
collection of tools in support of Wang Institute of Graduate Studies' Master
of Software Engineering curriculum. I am looking for automated assistance in
creating, maintaining, and evaluating data flow diagrams (dfd), data
dictionaries, and mini-specs (descriptions of the processing performed by the
primitive processes).

Listed below are the names and addresses of eight vendors which market
products which seem to meet at least some of our requirements, along with
brief product descriptions. I would like to hear from anyone who has experience
with any of these or who can add to my list.
