[net.wanted.sources] tape test program wanted

david@uwvax.UUCP (David Parter) (05/02/85)

does anyone have a tape test program for use under Unix, preferably
4.2? I have a VERY SIMPLE program that writes until a hard error,
rewinds, and reads until a hard error, reporting back how much of the
tape is usable up to the first error. Something better would be nice.

The computer I run at MIT once got a tremendous load of used tapes, so we
devised a simple tape tester which you will likely find useful. It also
does multiple passes to check those interrecord gap areas, too! I will
mail it to the original poster, and to anyone else who sends me mail asking
for it.

Please direct mail to:  {lots of places such as decvax!frog!, genrad!, ihnp4!}
