[net.wanted.sources] plot

vasoll@okstate.UUCP (10/29/84)

Has anyone out there written a plot(3g) library (similar to
the HPGL library recently posted) that works with DEC graphics
terminals such as the GIGI and VT125? I think they both speak
the same graphics language (Regis?). Please MAIL an OFFER to
send the source, I will try to choose the closest system (to
minimize the amount of traffic through the net).

If I don't hear anything in a week or so, I will undertake the
project and offer the results to the net.

Thanks in advance,

What follows is a summary of what I have received in response to my
net.wanted.sources article requesting a plot(3) library for Regis.

Tim Morrissey (ihnp4!druxt!timothy) - has what he calls a very limited
thrown-together library for line drawing. He is willing
to share what he has if I want to implement a Regis library.

Jim Mayer (rochester!mayer) - has a library that has only been tested
              on vt125 terminals.

Steve Sutphen (ihnp4!alberta!steve) - has an extended plot(3) implementation
that has been tried on vt125s and vt240s. He offers it to
any requester with proof of source license.

Lee Ward (convex!unmvax!lee) - sent me his implementation of the plot(3)
library for Regis (thank you Lee!). I have been running it
for a few days now and it seems to be just what the doctor
ordered.... He invites me to do whatever I please to it, but
would like to hear of any additions.

Greg Cline (decvax!dartvax!cline) - suggests that I write to Kiewit
Computation Center at Dartmouth. They have "lots" of gigi's
and plotting packages, but he didn't know the specifics.

Chip Rosenthal (cbosgd!t4test!chip) - is running vt240s (in Tektronix 4014
mode and requests that I forward this list (here it is...)

Jim Rees (apollo!rees) - has a program that reads plot(5) files and plots
them on a Gigi. He says that it could be converted to a
set of plot(3) routines without too much trouble.

Thanks to all of you who replied. And I wondered if anyone else in the
whole world uses Regis!!

Has anyone already written plot library routines to convert plot(5)
output into QMS "quic" graphics? We would like to locate a device
filter that can be used with both the QMS 1200 and 2400 laser printers
by Quality Micro Systems. (The environment is 4.2BSD on a VAX, but
this type of filter should be portable).
	Thanks in advance,

I am trying to use the plot(3X) graphics library on the Vax. I
would like to load my program with the device-independent plot library (-lplot)
and then run it with a filter specific to my terminal, e.g.,

		cc -o program program.c -lplot
		program | plot -Ttermtype

as described in the UNIX manual (BSD 4.2).
My problem is that there are only four or five different terminals for
which filters are provided, none of which I have. Specifically, I would like
to run my program using an IBM PC/XT or a DEC Professional as my terminal. Does
anyone know of additional plot filters or device-specific plot libraries that
are compatible with plot(3X)?

				Thanks,

Postnews seems to have eaten the signature on my original article...

P.S. I've heard of a database called "graphcap" that might provide the
necessary information to use plot with other terminals. Anyone know about
it? Alternatively, does anyone know how to make an IBM PC/XT or a DEC
Professional emulate one of the devices recognized by plot(1):

		Tektronix 4014 storage scope
		DASI Hyterm 450 terminal
		DASI 300 or GSI terminal
		DASI 300S terminal ?
I'm not familiar with most of these so it may be a rediculous question,
but I thought I'd try anyway.
					Thanks.

I am looking for an implementation of the plot(3) routines using
HP-GL, the Hewlett-Packard Graphics Language as implemented on,
for example, the HP 7470 Graphics Plotter. A plot(5) filter
would also be useful.

We did that here a while ago. Anybody who want's a copy should
write me for details.
