#R:hou5e:-21400:uiucdcs:10600067:000:924 uiucdcs!mcdaniel Feb 18 18:48:00 1983 I do not argue with her right to use a title of nobility on the net; the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) automatically defines each person automatically to be a lord/lady (U. S. Constitution notwithstanding) unless he/she actually wants to be a freeman or serf -- rather rare. I *do* think she is HIGHLY presumptuous to take the name of Arwen Undomiel, Elrond Halfelven's daughter, one of the 3 most beautiful Elves ever to have existed (those who have read Lord of the Rings will understand; others won't). Face it, Ar, you may greatly admire Undomiel a great deal (as do I; otherwise, I wouldn't flame in this *utterly* irresponsible and uncalled-for manner), but you are not immortal and you \probably/ do not have unearthly grace and beauty. Harrumph! (Really, don't take it very seriously, Ar!) Tim McDaniel (. . . pur-ee!uiucdcs!mcdaniel)

-- Is Lady Arwen a member of the Society For Creative Anachronism? I hadn't considered this possibility. If so, then she DOES have the right to use the title, provided that her activities on the net are society related. -- I agree with Tim McDaniels analysis of the use of the name ``Arwen''. Still, the right of a woman to dream about her appearrance and to try to improve it is well established. How many Lady Arwen fans are there on the net? I have come to the conclusion that I have some kind of a pen-pal crush on this person -- who may not even exist! C'mon, lady Arwen, tell us who you are in your other (non-net) life. Well, I hate to have to point this out, but for those of us who have read the appendices to the Lord of The Ring(s?) - Arwen Undomiel was not immortal. She, like her father, uncle, and brothers, was given the choice to be counted with men or elves, and she chose men when she married Aragorn. This explains alot about several scenes in the trilogy, which I went go into because they aren't particularly relevant right now. - David H. Kaufman ...!yale-comix!kaufman

Unmask Lady Arwen? Did I miss something or what? Who is she? What kind of a mask is she wearing? What brought her to the attention of any does/doesn't want to unmask her? Did she write something to the net worthwhile? Is she trying to keep her identity hidden or is it that nobody happens to know who she really is? So what if she is unmasked; would that change anyone's opinion of her if they knew that her name was Jane Doe and not Lady Arwen Undomiel? When did this all begin? How old does one have to be to join the Lady Arwen Fan Club? If her rel name (if she has one) were to become known, would anyone use it, or would they just go right on calling her Lady Arwen? Would somebody please send me the whole story when they have the time? Thanks Ryan

Vis-a-vis Mark Terribile's comments on Lady Arwen... 1) If she is in fact a SCA member, why has she not been commenting on the proposed SCA newsgroup? 2) This discussion does *not* belong on net.singles; a close reading of Lady Arwen's submissions to the net reveals that she has a "significant other". (Yes, I know... I'm disappointed too). 3) If you're starting a Lady Arwen Fan Club, I'm intrigued enough to join. --Bernie Roehl ...decvax!watmath!watarts!bernie

Where do I join?
I know Lady Arwen as just that: Lady Arwen. If she/he/it used any other name,
I wouldn't know it was the same person, except if some cross reference existed.
As far as names go, I don't care, as long as it is consistent.
>From now on, I will be:
Lord Bonzo (no, that's taken ... aha)
Lord Morgon
Anyone with prior claim, mail me and we will discuss it.
