I've recently discovered a full implementation of VI available for MS-DOS. The program runs on both IBM-PC's (with an ANSI driver installed) or a generic MS-DOS system. There are all three modes of operation, ex, open and visual modes. It includes regular expression handling, the full command set, etc. etc. About the only thing it doesn't have is some of VI's ability to filter through commands. The program is still in Beta test, (I'm running version 0.11 from 11/1/85) but version 1.00 will be out "very soon". According to the author, the only reason it isn't out of beta test is because the documentation is a "little scanty". I've been using PC/VI for about a month now and have yet to run across either a bug or an incompatibility with UNIX VI. Those wanting a copy immediately can get the beta version and will get the official release when it comes out. Warranty timer starts when you get version 1.00. Price is $149, multi-site licenses are also available. Bug finders get free-updates. I've been using VI under UNIX for quite a while now and so far have yet to find anything which PC/VI won't do.
