[na.forsale] Computer gear for sale

stan@drillsys.UUCP (Stan Hanks) (07/23/86)

I have decided to part with much of my computer hardware. However,
it seems to me that this stuff deserves a home with
someone who is pretty technically oriented, as I'm going to dump a ton
of software and manuals with it. All of this has received light use
and best of maintenance. Some of the software has never been used.

By the way, this is a long posting (~4k). There are several pieces
for sale: an H89 computer system with much software, a Morrow disk
controller, some memory, a CPU board, and many magazines. Feel free
to skip this article or to skip ahead in it (searching for "piece:"
should work pretty well).

First piece: Heathkit H-89/90:

I realize that this is "obsolete" hardware in the minds of many folks.
Nonetheless, it has been a hardy and robust system, devoid of failure
(once I upgraded the power supply) and has enough documentation and
software with it to make it a useful system for someone trying to learn
about computers or who is interested in having a pretty spiffy CP/M
system to use.

The CPU is upgraded to 4MHz Z-80 and I upgraded the power supply. It
has 64K RAM, 3 serial lines, the CDR 5.25/8 inch disk controller,
1 internal 40 track DSDD 5.25 drive, 2 DSDD 8 inch drives with the
Optronics DiskSaver boards. It also has a nifty-swifty Radio Shack
computer power gizmo that suppresses noise, line spikes and programming
errors while allowing you to turn the whole mess on just by turning
on the CPU.

The following software is included: CP/M 2.2, Aztec C, Pascal
MT+, Q/C, BDS C, Mince, Microsoft M80/L80/ED80, DR RMAC, DR MAC,
Microsoft FORTRAN 80, DR PL/I-80, Multiplan, all of the BIOS (of course),
a disk format conversion package, several random games,
some random PD software including KERMIT and a terminal emulator
I wrote, useful Unix utilities moved to CP/M, and anything else that
happens to be on the disks.

Also included are all of the manuals for all of the hardware,
several "guts of CP/M" books, several boxes of floppies, and several of
the plastic library cases for same. The manuals are detailed and annotated
where I have made modifications and include full schematics and everything
else you need to keep Junior happy.

My net cost to construct this system was about $4700. I would like to
recover as much of that as I can. In an ideal world, I would want $3000
for it, and be happy to take $2600. With the cost of PC clones being so
low, that's not really reasonable. I *really* want $2300 and will ship it
anywhere you want it to go in the continental US. (I will certify that it
was all working when it left here and that it will be packed such that it
should be working when it gets there.)

If you are interested, make me an offer. All I can do is refuse it. I
am *NOT* interrested in selling for a nominal price; I can get $3000
credit for donating it to a local charity and 3K off next years taxes
is looking damned good right now.

Second piece: Morrow DJ/DMA

This board is a very high performance 5.25/8 inch floppy controller for
S-100 systems. I used for less than 3 hours, discovering that my poor
Altair was confused by it. It is good as new and is in the original box.
It comes with the BIOS source and all utilities needed on 8 inch SSSD floppy,
a connector for console port, all of the manuals, and a copy of the
'Microsystems' article on the care and feeding of this board.

Retail price is $695. The best mail order price I found was $585.
I want $300, or best offer.

Third piece: 16K static S-100 memory

I have 5 Seattle Computers 16K static memory boards. They are good
to 5MHz. All are working. $20 each. All or part.

Fourth piece: S100 CPU

This is a 4MHz Ithica Z80 board which I corrected to be IEEE-696
compatible. $30. Manual.

Last piece: magazines.

Byte, July 1981 through August 1985
PC Technical Journal, December 1984 through July 1986

Prefer to sell whole lots, or at least year at a time. Make me
an offer. I can be reasonable.
