I regret that I am not as knowledgeable about the exact organization or resolution wording as I should be, but essentially, a couple of years ago, the US was the only country in the world that voted against a resolution to be adopted by a UN organization (UNICEF? WHO?) that opined that breast feeding was, in general, preferable to formula for infants, and which suggested guidelines for using and marketing formula. This was essentially because of some intensive lobbying by Nestle and made me almost ashamed to be associated with this country. If anyone has the details, please post them. Unfortunately, Nestle is only one company among many to market infant formula in third world nations -- it is the largest. I think many of the questionable marketing practices are characteristic of the industry rather than just one corporation. K.S. Bhaskar {microsoft,uw-beaver,lbl-csam}!fluke!bhaskar
