Does anyone have the complete lyrics to this old Peter, Paul and Mary tune. It used to be a favorite of mine and I'd like to share it with my daugther. Thanks in advance.

** > > Does anyone have the complete lyrics > to this old Peter, Paul and Mary tune. > I know this one, it is another one play and sing with my friends on weekends: Chorus: Puff the magic dragon, lived by the sea and frolicked in the autumn mist, in a land called Onalee. (sp? On - A - Lee) Little Jackie Paper loved that rascal Puff and brought him strings and sealing wax, and other fancy stuff Chorus. Together they would travel, on a boat with billowed sails. Jackie kept a lookout perched on Puff's giagantic tail. Noble kings and princes , would bow when 'er they came; and pirate ships would lower their flag, when Puff roared out his name. Chorus. Dragons live forever, but not so little boys. Painted wings and giants wings, make way for other toys. One grey night it happened, Jackie Paper came no more. And Puff that mighty dragon, ceased his fearless roar. Chorus. His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain Puff no longer came to play along the cherry lane Without his lifelong friend, Puff could not be brave. So Puff that mighty dragon, sadly slipped into his cave. Chorus. Chorus I liked it a lot when I was little. I don't think I really understood it. It is very sad. -- scc!steiny Don Steiny - Personetics @ (408) 425-0382 109 Torrey Pine Terr. Santa Cruz, Calif. 95060 ihnp4!pesnta -\ fortune!idsvax -> scc!steiny ucbvax!twg -/

> Is there any truth to the old rumor that "Puff the Magic Dragon" is > about a pusher and a junkie? The writer of "Puff" recently had a letter in the New York Times (regarding the Vietnam era counter-insurgency plane nicknamed "Puff") stating that the song is exactly what it appears, a song about losing the innocence of youth. J.R.R. Tolkien also used to get sick of people reading all kinds of hidden meanings into his work.

<....> > Is there any truth to the old rumor that "Puff the Magic Dragon" is > about a pusher and a junkie? Absolutely not! I've seen (Noel) Paul Stookey in concert several times and he always makes a point to deny the rumor when he introduces the song. Lorenzo De Leon

Robert Frost had the same problems with people trying to interpret things into the "miles to go before I sleep" ending. -Ron

[Oh fiddle, he reached my middle, how fine, he swallowed my >> Is there any truth to the old rumor that "Puff the Magic Dragon" is >> about a pusher and a junkie? Absolutly not, as Peter Yarrow the author of the song will tell you. I recall a PP&M concert a couple of years ago where Peter Yarrow talked about what would happen if you kept trying to apply interpretations like this to songs like Puff and Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds (which is not aboult LSD -- read the Paul & Linda McCartney interview in Playboy). Anyway, in this concert, Peter Yarrow gave as an example the Star Spangled Banner: Oh, Say can you SEE -- SEE = C = Cocaine.
