........ a group in another department on campus recently asked me to compare vaxima and smp, seems they are interested in the advertising claims by smp people that "smp is so much better than vaxima". i am at a loss to give a simplistic reply to their question. how about some feedback from folks who have used both, perhaps? i suppose one should compare not just raw speed on a few instances of problems (smp propaganda shows a many to one ratio between vaxima and smp on a handful of examples), but extensibility, flexibility, applicability, etc. i guess i'd like to pass on to these folks a whole spectrum of opinions such as we can collect. how about it? thanks jim UUCP: ...!uiucdcs!purtilo CSNET: purtilo%uiuc@csnet-relay.ARPA ARPA: jimp@mit-mc
