It sure has been quiet in this region, but now that I'm here anyway, does
anybody know of a (reasonably) good formula manipulator on UNIX for (next to)
free? Not that I'm really craving for it, but once every two months I feel
I could very well use one. I'm sure somebody must have written one somewhere,
who would be willing to share it. They are often given out as student
assignments, and somebody must have done a good job at it. So please step
forward and make yourself known.

The only two contenders I know of are VAXIMA for Franz Lisp, the
availability of which is unclear, and Steve Wolfram's SMP written
in (and generating) C, done originally at Cal Tech. Unfortunately
SMP, which looks pretty nice, seems to be either unavailable or
available only at a huge price. I would appreciate some clarification
of the availability of either of these packages.
