Subject: SMP for VAX/VMS

I am interested in determining the popularity of the language SMP
from Inference Corp. We are currently running v1.4 of SMP on a VAX 11/750 under
VMS on a temporary license. I am particularly interested in comparitive
viewpoints on SMP vs. MACSYMA for such an environment. (I understand there
is now a version of MACSYMA from DOE's software clearing center which runs
under VMS using a New Implimentation Lisp for VMS.)
I am currently interested in developing algorithms
which exploit a combination of symbolic procedures involving differentiation
of complex, irrational expressions and standard numerical procedures for things
like solving linear systems. Has anyone had any experience in
automatic generation of Fortran code from SMP (or other symbolic packages).
This is a feature that Inference suggested they would have available "soon".
Is there a sizable user community on this bulletin board with which
my group can interact while we evaluate and learn SMP?
