I've just been reading a few essays in J.R. Newman's "The World of Mathematics" and I got to wondering whatever happened to him. Last I heard, he was a member of the Board of Editors at Scientific American. If you have not seen "The World of Mathematics", I highly recommend it. I am planning to write Simon and Schuster to see if I can order a set (it is in four volumes) and I plan to ask about JRN. I just wanted to know if the net could help me out on this. The last mention of him that I could find was dated 1956 (the year I was born), so I don't even know for sure if he is still around (he will be 76 this year). Thanks for any pointers you can give me.
