This is for person whose son's TI had died-- A couple of days ago, my TI 99/4A died just after loading an assembler I am working on(LONG program). I powered it off and then back on again, after disconnecting my homebrew RAM expansion and speech synthesizer. That time the screen went black and the sound generator started putting a high- pitched wail. After opening up the case, I pulled out the power supply board and checked voltages. Both +5 and +12 were fine, but -5 was gone. The CPU and GROM, among other things, require -5V to work. I am going to replace the -5V regulator this weekend and post the results. I hope the rest is OK. By the way, I found out why the black area on the right of the console by the cartridge port gets so warm: the power supply sits right there. I'm going to see about mounting a fan on my console. Hope this helps(me,too)! Kchula-Rrit !menlo70!nsc!nessus
