Primary upgrade board (to 512K): $520 Secondary " " (to 768K): $500 Rom upgrade : $ 75 single board upgrade (w/o ROM upgrade which is still needed): $780 The first two boards are from TI, the last one from Western Automation. Above are some price quotes for the memory upgrade of the TIPC. Does any one know a better price? Compared with a multi-function card for IBM-PC, these price is well too high!! hu@smu

One reason IBM PC boards are much cheaper is quantity. Let's face it, there are a few more IBM's around than TI. However, one additional source for memory boards for TI is Persyst. I have a Persyst board in my PC. Mine has one rs-232 port, clock, and 192k. I forget how much it cost, but it was much less than TI's stuff when I bought it. However, there is an advantage to the Western Automation boards, in that with an S1, you can get a hard disk interface, and later on buy a winchester drive for your TI. One final note, TI issued a ROM upgrade. If you have an older TI, you may need this upgrade to address more than 256k. As I recall, TI soaks you somewhere between $40-$60 for the new ROM chips. **FLAME ON** It pisses me off to pay for this ROM upgrade when the @#$%^& machine was supposed to address 720kb when I bought it. In particular, it bugs the %$^&*($%^ out of me to have to pay more than $10 for $1.00 of silicon. TI, ARE YOU LISTENING?!?!?!? **FLAME OFF** Hope this helps. As I recall, Not quite. Having fully populated Persyst boards in all of my older TIPC systems the absence of the "new" ROMs prevents it from addressing the top 16-bytes of 512K memory. B{F}D! It hasn't caused me any problems and I tend to push my TIPCs quite bit. >TI soaks you somewhere between $40-$60 for the new ROM chips. That's life. I s'pose that MOST anyone else would be doing the same thing. >TI, ARE YOU LISTENING?!?!?!? Well, some of us are but not anyone that has to do with TIPC's. Those folks are in Austin and aren't on any external network. ================================================================ _____ -Rusty- |\/ o \ o | ( -< O o Where's the fish? |/\__V__/ ARPA: Haddock%TI-CSL.csnet@CSNet-Relay.arpa or Rusty@Maryland CSNet: Haddock@TI-CSL USENET: {ut-sally, convex!smu, texsun, rice} ! waltz ! haddock DISCLAIMER: The opinions expressed above are mine and not those of Texas Instruments Incorporated.
