From: Jerry E. Pournelle <POURNE@MIT-MC> There was a fair amount of software, some extremely useful, at NCC. Probsably the most important was a C compiler which is said to be working Right Now (copy supposed to come to me with Xeroxed documentation in next few days). Therewere other applications software packages. The story on MacWrite: I am told that MacWrite is deliberatly crippled (cannot handle big documents) due to an agreement with Microsoft so that MacWrite won't compete with The Word; only The Word ain't out yet. I was also told that versions of Macwrite with many new features and ability to handle longer documents are already used internally at Apple. Anyone know anything about this? There still isn't the flood of software announced way back last spring, but some is appearing. Data bAse, and an interesting "Composer's " package that lets Mac write music; I didn't see if it did automatic transpositions and like that. There was also a fascintating gadget that attaches to the Imagewriter and allows Mac to DIGITIZE drawings such as illustrations from books, hand drawn plans, etc., turning those into a legal Macpaint file. This could be the big news of the show.
