From: Thomas.Newton@cmu-cs-spice.arpa I'm using a USR 212A Autodial modem on my Mac and it works just fine. I took the wiring instructions from the comments in one of the early versions of MacTep. Since the cable did not include a connection for DTR, I had to set the 'DTR override' switch on the back of the Autodial to get it working. The version of MacTep archived at sumex-aim should have instructions for a more complete cable. I believe the cable wiring to hook a Volksmodem to the Mac can be found in database section 5 of the Apple SIG on Compuserve. Since the modem works with MacTep, I know that it will work with MacTerminal. The only question is whether MacTerminal's special features (on-screen LEDs and Dial command) will work with the USR. I don't care whether the on-screen LEDs work or not since I have *real* LEDs on the front of the modem. The USR and Hayes use the same command for dialing the phone (yes, I know the modems differ quite a bit in other respects), and it's probably a fairly safe bet to assume that the Apple modem is based on either a USR or a Hayes.
