From: kato.PA@XEROX.ARPA Some of you may remember my plea for help when bad things happened during my installation of Lisa software. Here's the whys and wherefores: 1. You MUST have 1 Meg of RAM to run the Pascal compiler or the Editor. If you don't, you'll just get an Error 131: File system error while reading program. My salesman didn't tell me that, but when I opened my Lisa up, I had 1 Meg installed. I am NOT going to tell him about it. 2. Even if you have a Meg, the Pascal Workshop "hasty" release is set for 1/2 Meg. Go into the System Manager and set the 1 Meg switch up in the Preferences. This was a mistake on Apple's part. This is the problem that led me to the next situation. You may get a 131 when you try to set the preferences. Just keep trying. I got the 131, made a phone call to Apple, then tried, illogically, to set the preferences again. It worked. So keep trying. 3. Don't install MacWorks onto your hard disk until you get Office System 3.0 that allows Lisa stuff and MacWorks to share the disk. Since I kept getting Error 131 on my Pascal, I didn't know if my distribution floppies were bad or my Profile had bad spots on it. So I installed MacWorks. It worked just fine. But when I tried to re-install the Lisa software, neither the Workshop or the Office System would erase the disk. They both insisted that they couldn't write to it. So, MacWorks does something bad to the disk. Kato.pa@Xerox.ARPA
