I'm not a steady reader of net.misc, so apologies if this topic has been discussed before. I'm interested in finding out how people name computers. I don't mean dull names like the BTL Comp. Centers (pyux[a-z], for example), but the interesting ones. Here are a few that I know of: - Star Trek characters (kirk, spock, uhura) - birds (eagle, raven, hawk, dove, starling) - comets (ikeya, encke) - detergents (ajax, comet, borax, duz) - HGttG characters (eddie, deep-thought, arthur, zaphod) - volcanos (shasta, navajo, st-helens, diablo) I'm not sure about some of these (I don't know that encke is a comet or diablo is a volcano), but the people at those sites are probably reading this message and can correct me. I don't care if you reply directly to me or to the net (this is probably more interesting than streetlamps), but I'll summarize any responses I get. There is a whold family of comedian computers: Floyd, (well, technically a comedian, anyway), groucho, harpo, groucho, zeppo, chico and gummo. A recent 'name that computer' contest was held for a new computer here. Winning name: 'oogie' (Uncle Floyd's puppet.) Management thought better of it and went for 'clyde'. Stay tuned.
