From: Mark Zimmerman <mex101@mitre> Two bits of info that might portend changes (or demise) for Lisa: Tuesday (6th) Wall St. Journal article about Apple profits quotes Jobs in some evasive language about repositioning Lisa to make it more fully integrated with the Mac line, and about dropping separate Lisa software projects. (my interpretation, from memory) Friday (9th) on CompuServe Apple Users' Group, somebody reports that when a friend of his called Apple with Lisa trouble, he was told that a replacement board of some sort would be available (don't know when, or for how much) to make the Lisa fully compatible with Mac.... Maybe it's only coincidental, and my misinterpretation; does anybody else have some more substantive info about the future of Lisa? - Z

From: Mark Richer <RICHER@SUMEX-AIM.ARPA> There was a short article on Apple in the Sunday SF Examiner which said Apple was planning on moving the Lisa into the MacIntosh line (I don't remember the exact wording). The article said they were planning on making a Lisa with a detachable keyboard and separate monitor. Internally it would still be Lisa, but I guess they may phase out the name and make it more compatible with the Mac. The article wasn't too clear probably because they only heard rumors themselves. The article also said that Apple would announce in January its laser printer, and the long-awaited Apple-Net. In addition they may sell a card for IBM-PCs which would allow them to connect to the APple Net (which is 'box' that includesa hard disk) also. And finally there was mention of a 'turbo-mac' which might have a video and hard disk connector. What I really wonder is if Commodore will announce the 'mac-style' color computer Amiga developed and is rumored to be priced at under $1000 when its released. Mark ---- -------

From: Mark Richer <RICHER@SUMEX-AIM.ARPA> Some corrections to my last msg : In Jan Apple wil probably announce AppleTalk (not NET), a LAN 'Apple somehow hopes to stun the audience with its new file-server system dubbed the Office System. It's essentially a box with a hard disk designed to be attached to the laser printer and Appletalk.' The 'Turbo Mac' will have a double-side SOny 31/2-inch drive and a "video out" connector. A "dedicated" hard disk connector may also be included. The Lisa will be repackaged possibly with 12-inch screen and detachable keyboard though it may be called a Mac of 'some sort.' "Reports have it that Apple intends to phase out the unsuccessful Lisa computer" Apple is also setting up its own in-house business sales force to go after the business market against IBM with more success they hope.
