From: Martin J Mahoney <US.MJM%CU20B@COLUMBIA.ARPA> I have been using my external drive for for a couple of weeks now without any problem, however last night when i inserted a disk into it I got the message that the directory was bad and should it try to rebuild it. Since I make ample use of the programmers switch i assumed it was my fault, and said yes. I then ejected the disk saying it coulding find something and I should reinsert it but hold down the Command and option keys. When I did this I the message that it couldn't read the disk and should it initialize it. I said no. I then ejected the disk in the internal drive and inserted that into the external drive. I got the same message that it couldn't read the disk and should it initialize it. I knew that this disk was good because I booted off of it. I then inserted the first disk in the internal drive where it was read fine. At this point I assumed that my external drive went bad. I shut off the system waited a few miniutes then turned it back on. The external drive then work without any problems it was able to read in the disk that started the whole thing. Does any know what caused the problem? Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? Do I have a flaky disk drive That i should get fixed before the warranty runs out, or Problem with my Mac, or just some software bug. Any help would be appreciated. Martin Mahoney -------
