From: olson@harvard.ARPA (Eric Olson) I, too have had problems with RamDisks. I had my Mac upgraded to 512K and received a RamDisk with the upgrade. It had a Ramdisk start program and an extra DRVR in the System File desk accessories (hidden: .RamDisk). It fails to Open files when the disk is approx half full. This results in Copy Failed message from the finder AFTER an entire copy of around 300K has completed. Some of the files do not get copied even though there is space. It allocates in 2K chunks and says it's on the Applebus. It came from BCS, and probably Compuserve before that (but I don't know this for sure). [Sorry-- BCS= Boston Computer Society]. The othger one is the one from {SUMEX}<INFO-MAC>. This exhibits the same problem. The disk is slightly smaller, the heap slightly larger, and it says it is a DISK in the File Info Box. This one, of course, requires the System File to contain an INIT resource that makes the Heap smaller and will not boot on a thin Mac. Same problem: Open fails when disk is > half full. It also allocates in 2K chunks on the RamDisk. Other RamDisks I know about: The one that comes with MacWorks for the Lisa, which I have heard (1) Works fine [heard on INFO-MAC] and (2) doesn't work at all [so what else is new?]; the one from Assimilation Products in Calf (since this is a product I assume it works, but I haven't gotten it yet); the one distributed on UseNet.Sources (which may be the same as some other one(s)). I would be eternally greatful and would give up my firstborn child (but only if the shrinkwrap is still sealed) if someone would corroborate my problems (so I know my Mac's OK) and point me towards a Ramdisk that works. Ciao. Eric.
