an ad in the German news-magazine "Der Spiegel" of Dec 10, 84 offers a MAC
for 2 days and 2 nights.  all that's required is a deposit of DM 400 (~$125)
and a "Personalausweiss", a kind of 'internal' passport.

what I also find interesting is the wording and the thrust of the ad-text,
which I'll translate without further comment:

A computer is supposed to make your life easier rather than more difficult.
It should help with your work, so you can find time again for 'the important
things in life.'  But what good is a computer then, to which you have to
sacrifice weeks and months of your time before you get to master it? Wouldn
Wouldn't that rather seem as if the computer is mastering man?  These are
thoughts which lead to a revolutionizing invention:  Macintosh, understanding
man.  .....   Try not to become a machine.  try out an Apple.
