From: Werner Uhrig <CMP.WERNER@UTEXAS-20.ARPA> friends, have any of you found a DB-programs for the MAC which would allow you to feed it data in a batch mode. It seems unreasonable having to type in my lists of addresses, phone-numbers, disks, cassettes, records, files, books, etc., all over again ....... but nothing I have read so far indicates any input mode other than keyboard. also, I'm interested in some system which would allow me to create a DB of text-sections (INFO-MAC articles for example) with associated keywords and with a hierarchical structure which would allow me classify things. Cross-reference pointers would be (desirable) gravy. I'll summarize any mail (please, no pushing to tell me all the good news (-: -------

From: cornell!vax135!houxm!ahuta!pegasus!lzmi!klc@uw-beaver.arpa This may not help you, but here goes: Omnis 2 has a multi-update feature that can be used for mass inputs. For example, if most people live in New Jersery, that can be multi-updated in the state field for all or some subset of records. I do know that they are updating their insert mode for batch inputs - currently you have to click on insert for each new item. In the update, you should be able to go into insert mode and stay there until you click out of it. Or maybe they meant that they are giving the feature as you discribed. I am not sure. Omnis 3 will be coming out in March. This may have the feature that you want. You can try calling them: Oganizational Software Co., Inc. in California. I do not have their phone number, but I am sure you can find an ad in either MACWORLD or one of the other journals. Hope this helped.
