[net.misc] SCA information

brad@sdcrdcf.UUCP (06/15/83)

NOTE: this letter was written before the recent message in net.misc concerning
responses to a letter about the SCA. Somehow, I never saw the original, but
I am interested in mail with anyone interested also, especially those on the
west coast. Anyway, here goes ...

To whom it may concern:

I'm doing some research on the medieval Germanic culture for my SCA (Society
for Creative Anachronism) personna. For those who don't know, the SCA is an
international educational group, concerned with learning the past by
reliving the medieval and renaissance periods (with modifications).

Unfortunately, although I have been able to find a lot of information about
the political/religious forces driving central Europe, I have found few
other references to the culture. Specifically, I'm looking for fashion and
language developments, but I'm by no means limiting it to those.

My purpose is to put together as comprehensive a history as possible,
without going into the depth of a novel-length narrative. The period I'm
covering (initially, at least) is from the death of Louis the Child in
A.D. 911 to the Peace of Westphalia, A.D. 1648. This corresponds roughly to
the period generally accepted in the SCA. From this, I will decide on the
details of my personna.

If anyone can help, or would like to talk about the SCA in general please
respond to me by mail.
