From: HENRY%MIT-OZ@MIT-MC.ARPA Does anyone have an opinion on the "surge suppressor" frobs advertised heavily in Mac mags? Is there a real danger of surges frying your machine or are these guys just trying to make a buck? I'm a little suspicious since I didn't see Apple offer or recommend one. Also, they seem to vary in price greatly, ranging from $50-$200. Is there any difference? I have been having very intermittent hardware problems with my Mac [Screen boots with stripes instead of ? disk icon, but will start up after a few minutes. Sometimes the Mac takes to a 15kHz scream, also stopping after a while. And a really strange one -- sometimes it will triple every character you type, but resetting the control panel will cure it.] The machine is still under warranty but I hesitate to bring it in since the problems are so unreproducible. Could power problems be responsible?
