Ouch! Yes, mail from decwrl to Stanford IS going to the east coast and back THROUGH US, with US (hanauma) making the long distance call and PAYING FOR IT!!!! Now, we don't mind an occasional call or two, but... this... is getting ridiculous. The funny thing is that we can send mail to decvax over ARPAnet for free... but people don't route it that way. Anyway, as an act of desperation, we're only calling decvax weekly now. So DON'T USE THAT PATH! (Also beware that Hanauma's /etc/host file is a bit stale, and we don't have domain based addressing yet.) I've updated our uucp map entry today to reflect this change. I've sent mail to decvax asking them to NOT list us as "HOURLY". That's been a lie for years now, as far as I can tell. This mess started when I updated our uucp map entry in December. The old one was several years old and hideously out of date. I followed all the instructions correctly, I thought. Did I do something wrong? Arg! I suspect rather that we've fallen victim to a bug of sorts in the mail software everyone is using. Anyway, sorry for the inconvenience, guys! It's causing problems for us TOO! P.S.: Don't try to reply to canopus... \ /\ /\ /\/\/\/\/\/\/\.-.-.-.-.......___________ \ / \ / \ /Dept of Geophysics, Stanford University \/\/\.-.-....___ \/ \/ \/Joe Dellinger joe@hanauma.stanford.edu decvax!hanauma!joe\/\.-._
