I'm glad we have a newsgroup for "general purpose scientific discussion." The recent articles on Stonehenge, dreams, and how many bits there are in the human brain provide further proof of the north/honey thesis: netnews is a slow-moving parody of itself In this case we were caught off guard by the comparative swiftness with which the parody began, and the existence of a parody without the need for a real self to be parodied.

The REAL purpose for net.sci is as a new top level group for scientific
oriented sub groups in the same vein as net.rec or net.micro. The fact that
it can also be used for discussions that don't deserve their own groups is
an added benefit.
I want to thank the authors of the north/honey thesis for proving a little
thesis of my own-- the chuqui the plaid jackals on the hunt thesis:
Certain people on the net are more interested in tearing down
the work of others than they are in helping make it better.
