This month's Byte magazine (page 10) announces access to DEMOLINK which is supposed to be piggybacking on someone's network to get Byte listings and sample programs. Cleverly, they give access numbers (Denver, Los Angeles, hicago, New York, etc.) but they do NOT give a trouble number or any sort of help contact. The problem is that the Denver answering modem (or its phone line) is really bad -- there is an incredible amount of line noise - to the point that you can't read the prompts much less do the downloads -- Xmodem gags with all of the garbage on that connection. Does anyone from Byte read this newsgroup? Who would I contact? Phone or email? Etc. Ted PS - it isn't my modem or my phone line. I use my phone/modem constantly for data and have never lost a character. -- Ted Koppel CARL - Colorado Alliance of Research Libraries = BITNET: TKOPPEL@DUCAIR Internet: ted@carl.org or tkoppel@diana.cair.du.edu
