[net.math.stat] What is "S"?

alana@mhuxm.UUCP (whipple) (07/03/84)

Another description of S that might be somewhat more easily obtainable
is an article in Communications of the ACM, May 1984 or so. The article
is written (or co-authored) by John Chambers, one of the developers of S.

S is so a language--with a formal grammar and everything! One can
can do all sorts of neat things such as nest function calls in
subscripts. Try to do that with SAS!
