The American Statistical Association has just formed a section on Statistical
Graphics. Forms were recently sent out to members to join up, and within
a week or so 900 people had already signed on. It is clear this will be a
popular section with several thousand members. It will also be a very active one;
a team of organizers is putting together about 20 work groups to pursue various
activities. The section will be a dynamic one and computer graphics will
