While out shopping the other day I came across a store that
made its money selling coffee (ground and perked). They had a
sign by their coffee cups saying that if you wanted Sweet'n'Low
or Equal, to just ask. Being an avid net-reader, I couldn't
resist asking which was more popular. SnL is a cyclamate/dextrose
combination, Equal is aspartame.
I was told that they are doing a survey for the people who
market Equal in Canada to see which was more popular. In the 5
days they had been running the survey, the results were:
Equal: 76 (12,15,13,18,18)
SnL: 15 (6,3,5,1,0)
There is absolutely nothing on display to bias you toward one
or the other. There are actually two identical looking signs
with the sweeteners names on, each saying to ask for the
sweetener if you want it.
I am curious what the net-preference is. I prefer Aspartame
to any other artificial sweetener. I would like to collect
responses and I will summarize if there is enough interest.

My preference is definately for aspertame as a sweetener. I think saccharin tastes like powdered aluminum, while aspertame tastes just like sugar. I tried Crystal Light (tm), the powdered drink mix sweetened with Equal. It is really delicious. I drink the lemonade flavor. I use Equal powder in my tea in the morning, and there is absolutely no aftertaste. I could never drink anything with saccharin in it because of the aftertaste. I am waiting with baited breath for diet Dr. Pepper and diet Coke with aspertame. Try aspertame. It is really good! -deborah gronke bennett Ampex Corp. fortune!dsd!atd!avsdT:deborah
