[net.tv.soaps] Days of Our Lives

carey@seismo.UUCP (05/10/84)

Any "Day of Our Lives" fans out there in netland? Supposedly this
week is the most exciting week this soap has seen for a long time.
They have been advertising "Days" on prime time tv every night so
far this week on channel 4, which is the station "Days" airs in
the Washington-Metropolitan area. This is the first time I have
seen a soap advertised at night, anyone else ever experience this?
I have been recording "Days" now for a few months and this week
is the climax to the story line that has been going on this whole
time. And they are not wrapping this story line up in just one
day (as the soaps have been known for doing in the past). This whole
week has been the wrap up. It has been pretty nerve-wracking watching
it every day, not knowing who is going to be killed off the show or
what. Well, just thought I'd put my two cents into this new newsgroup,
so people will feel justified in having created it for soap suds fans.

Who else remembers the "This is MacDonald Carey, and these are the days of
our lives" intro? You don't suppose. . . :-)

Re: soaps advertised on nighttime tv

During the time Luke and Laura were on the run from Frank Smith, they
advertised it at night.

Also, when Laura came back, they advertised it in a half-page ad in TV
Guide. I never saw a daytime soap get half a page in TV Guide before.

I was mistaken about not seeing other soaps advertised at night on
prime-time. Wasn't the Luke and Laura Wedding on G.H. advertised at
night also? I remember that being a really big thing. In fact, I
used to watch it then, but since both of those characters left the
show, I just can't get into it. So I switched to "Days" and I'm
glad I did. It has been so exciting lately I can barely stand the
suspense. :-) Someone has asked that I post some updates on the
"Days" soap and I wouldn't mind posting here if more than one
person is interested.

I thought the comment made by !ado was really cute about the
coincidence in MacDonald Carey's name and my name, (Marie Carey)
and my interest in the "Days" soap. MacDonald Carey is the man
who announces the show every day and he also plays a doctor and
upstanding, moralistic citizen in the soap.

Anna tries to convince Tony to invest in her dress design business.
She asks him to invest two million dollars.

Roman and Bo Brady's sister Kimberly is in Salem from Europe. Apparently
she was the mystery woman who had gone into Tony's penthouse and fallen
asleep in his bed.

Pete prepares to leave dance camp before Melissa's mother Maggie
gets there to visit Melissa. He wants to break up the relationship
he has with Melissa because he does not like sneaking around and
making Melissa lie so that they can be together. He feels he is not
good enough for her and that she is a nice girl and wouldn't be doing
things such as lying if it weren't for him. Pete tells Melissa that
there is always trouble when he is around and that they would never
be able to be together without sneaking and it is taking it's toll
on both of them. He tells Melissa that he loves her and he leaves
her at dance camp. She is heartbroken.

Bo Brady asks Tony DiMera to escort his sister Kimberly to the
opening of Maxwell's art exhibit that night. Bo wants her there
to take pictures of everything for him. He tells her that he needs
her to help him in his investigative work. She agrees.

Hope tells Larry that she is going to go to New Orleans with him.
He tells her that she is to stay home. She tells him that she will
bring her grandmother as her chaperone while Larry is at all of the
political functions he will (or says he will) be attending while in
New Orleans. Hope wants to go to New Orleans to be near Bo and she
also does not want Bo and Meagan together in New Orleans.

Gwen and Larry arrange to rendevouz (sp?) in New Orleans. Larry is
going to be featured at Maxwell's party to help further his career
and Gwen will be there as Maxwell's guest. She is also his attorney.

Harold asks Tom Horton to hold the key to his safety deposit box
in case anything should happen to Harold. He is running scared,
having threatened the organization. He fears he will be eliminated.

The party Maxwell is going to have in New Orleans is two-fold. He
is going to be moving his art exhibit down to New Orleans after his
opening in Salem. The party is to celebrate that fact and also to
feature Larry Welch as a rising new politician who Maxwell is
backing.

In the middle of the art exhibition opening of Maxwell's art
collection, Bo has the lights turned off and he grabs a piece
of art closest to the elevator. He then jumps into the elevator
and locks it from inside. When the lights come up and he opens
the elevator doors, the security guards that work for him at the
gallery have their guns pointed at him. Bo did this to check the
security system he is in charge of at the gallery. He is trying
to gain Maxwell's trust so that he can get inside the organization.
This demonstration was meant to try and impress Maxwell.

Dear DOOL fans,

I'm sorry you've been deprived of the DOOL updates, but Marie
Carey, who used to write the updates, found that it was taking too much
of her time to take notes on the show, write the update, and post it
every day. I don't have time to do that either, but I'll try to give a
brief summary of what's been happening lately.

                              -Kelly

-----------------------------------------------

Shane gave Kimberly Brady a device to erase the video tapes that
Linda Anderson was using to blackmail Kimberly into working as a
prostitute for her. Kimberly is ecstatic and turns over a new leaf.
She is obviously very taken with Shane, but he keeps his distance,
trying not to get emotionally involved with Kim, but it's not hard to
see that he cares for her.

A Russian named Leopold Bronsky came to Salem as the impresario
of an ice show. He is actually the person who is to deliver the third
prism to Meagan. Then with the three prisms, Stephano can get the
operation he needs to save his life. Shane and the ISA are onto
Bronsky, though, and they get Kimberly Brady to get friendly with
Bronsky to try and get info on the prism. (Bronsky knew Kimberly from
Europe and was always infatuated with her.) Shane was given the job of
persuading Kim to do the job, but he hates having to ask her to do it
since she is so happy to be starting a new life now. At first Kimberly
is angry at him and slaps his face for asking her to do it. But then
after she thinks about it a while and realizes she would be helping to
get Stephano, who killed her brother, Roman, she agrees to move in on
Leopold.

Bo starts dating Meagan to try and get info from her about the
delivery of the third prism. Hope is heartbroken when she finds out
that Bo is seeing Meagan.

Melissa has been working at a flower shop delivering flowers for
Barry Reed. She didn't know it, but Barry was putting cocaine in the
pots that she delivered. She found out about it eventually, but Barry
frightened her into continuing to deliver the drugs. One night when she
was about to go out on a delivery, Barry had to go out to the front of
the store for a moment. Melissa dialed the police and told them to come
to the flower shop and they would find all kinds of drugs. She didn't
give her name. Barry came in and caught her. Barry took off out the
back dragging Melissa with him. The police raided the place and found
cocaine everywhere. They then proceeded to search for Barry and
Melissa. Melissa got away from Barry and went into hiding because she
was afraid she'd have to go to jail if she went back home. The police
found Barry and he said Melissa was doing all the drug dealing and he
didn't know anything about it. All the headlines are about Melissa
Anderson: Debutante Drug Dealer. Melissa has no money so she tries to
shoplift some food from a small grocery store, where Speed's sister,
Ivy, happens to work. Ivy catches her but doesn't turn her in. Instead
she takes Melissa to her apartment and lets her stay there. Melissa
doesn't tell Ivy her real name. Pete has started dating Ivy a little
bit, but Ivy calls him P.J., so when she talked to Melissa about her
boyfriend, P.J., Melissa never caught on it was Pete. Melissa never
knew Ivy's last name, so she never knew she was Speed's sister. Melissa
decides she is imposing on Ivy so she leaves and goes to see Pete. Pete
cries and tells her he loves her, but Melissa says she has to leave
Salem and she wants Pete to give her some money. Pete tries to get her
to stay, but she refuses, so he gives her $90 (all he had) and she heads
out for New York. She doesn't go to New York, but she wants Pete to
think that's where she went. Yesterday they showed her staying in a
run-down rooming house, somewhere, but definitely not NY.

Ivy and Speed's father is hired by Linda and Alex to burn
Anderson manufacturing. He is burned badly in the fire and somehow
Tom and Alice Horton came across him. They immediately started to treat
him. Tom gave him an injection of morphine for the pain, but it turns
out he was allergic to morphine and died. The Selenko kids, Speed and
Ivy, are suing Dr. Horton for killing their father by giving him
morphine, which he was allergic to. They claimed he always wore a medic
alert bracelet, but Dr. H said he definitely was not wearing it that
night (New Year's Eve). Mrs. H also says this. Speed has the bracelet
for some reason. I didn't watch this part (I was in Hawaii during all
this!) so I don't know the circumstances of why Speed has the bracelet.
Anyway, Speed sneaks into the Horton house and plants the bracelet in
the jacket Dr. H was wearing that night. Marie Horton grabs the coat in
a few minutes and takes it to the cleaners. Of course, the cleaner
finds the bracelet and remembers the story from the newspaper. He calls
the Selenkos and tells them and their lawyer, Gwen Davies, about the
bracelet. Unfortunately, this looks bad for Dr. H.

Marlena took a trip to Caracas to try and get inside Stephano's
estate. She goes in disguised as a maid and finds two cribs in a room.
The cribs have names carved on them - Samantha and Eric. She returns
home and hires a round the clock bodyguard for herself, Carrie, and the
twins. Stephano is very taken with Marlena and plans to take her and
the three children to his estate in Caracas to live there with him.
Stephano is staying outside Salem on a farm with a guy named Jimmy
Porterfield. Stephano disguises himself as Mrs. Lafferty, a wheel-chair
ridden old woman, who Jimmy supposedly takes care of. Marlena knows
somehow that Jimmy is involved with Stephano. (I'm not sure how she got
mixed up with Jimmy - must have happened when I was in Hawaii!) So,
anyway, she tries to see Jimmy every now and then to get some info.
Jimmy and Stephano know that Marlena knows about Jimmy. However,
Marlena does not know that Mrs. Lafferty is Stephano. A couple times
Marlena has tried to search Jimmy and Mrs. Lafferty's house while Jimmy
was no there, but Stephano was watching her the whole time through a
2-way mirror.

Anna Dimera opens a new company with Alex's financial backing
and is a big success. She is using Jasmine as her only model. She was
hoping that by using Jasmine as a model, Jasmine would become more
wordly and Tony would not be attracted to Jasmine anymore, but the plan
does not seem to be working. Jasmine is still as sweet as ever.

Liz has a new manager, some real big-name manager. She is
really excited about this. But, this manager is being controlled by the
syndicate. They are trying to get back at Neil by ruining Liz. I'm not
sure what they are going to do to Liz yet.

Calliope disguises herself as a debutante, Tiffany Marie something.
Liz sets up a meeting between Tiffany and Eugene's mother to see if
Tiffany is a suitable date for Eug. Eugene's mom loves Tiffany, so
Tiffany and Eugene have a date. Eug adores Tif, but Calliope (aka
Tiffany) gets mad because Eugene does not know who Tiffany really is and
he seems to be really interested in Tif. Confusing, huh? Eventually,
Eug figures out that Tiffany is really Calliope. It was a pretty funny
story line.

Hope takes her final exam at the police academy and goes to the
Body Connection for her nightly soak. Meanwhile, Meagan is in the
utility closet of the hot tub room wiring up the hot tub to electrocute
Hope when she gets in. Meagan wants Hope out of Bo's life completely so
she will never be a threat to her. While Meagan is in the closet,
Leopold Bronsky and Larry Welch get in the hot tub. Leopold knows
Larry's father, Victor Chervot, a brilliant Soviet scientist who was
sent to Siberia. Chervot was the inventor of the prisms. Leopold
explains to Larry about the prisms and Stephano, etc... He explains
that the third prism will be delivered to Meagan at the ice show, but
that Victor altered the prism somewhat. The prism will be frozen when
Meagan receives it. As it thaws it will change colors. When it
turns to red, the final color, it will explode, destroying all of Salem,
and a large portion of the state. He warns Larry to get far away. He
claims there is no way of stopping this.

Meagan overhears all of this and tries to flip the switch on
Leopold to electrocute him, but he gets out too quickly. The next thing
we know Hope is in the hot tub room getting ready to get in. On Friday
the last instant of the show showed Hope's foot about to enter the
water. Yesterday, we see Hope pull her foot away from the water
(whew!). Next we see Meagan lying in the hot tub! She is lying there
not moving. Hope calls to her a couple times and she doesn't respond.
Hope goes over to her and when she bends down to touch her, Hope's hair
clip falls into the water and sparks fly everywhere! Hope screams and
the janitor runs in just as Hope is turning off the electricity in the
utility closet. The police come and take fingerprints, etc... It's
obvious to us that Meagan killed herself and tried to make it look like
Hope murdered her. The only fingerprints the police found were Hope's.
Abe says Hope is their one and only suspect.

 	Well, that's all for now.

p.s. I just reread this and discovered I kept slipping in and out from
present tense to past. Sorry! I wrote it in a big hurry and I don't
have time to fix it.

kjm@brl-tgr.ARPA (Kelly J. Benjamin ) (02/06/85)

---------------------------------

Just a short note to correct myself. Yesterday, I said that it was
obvious to us that Meagan killed herself and set it up to look like Hope
murdered her. I guess I was way off on that one. On yesterday's show
the police announced that Meagan was killed by a blow to the head and
then she was put into the hot tub. Hope is still the no. 1 suspect.
But people are starting to watch Larry Welch, too. He is acting very
strangely and he also has a rather nasty burn on his finger. He says he
burned it on the teapot, but Gwen thinks it looks like more than a
teapot burn.

While I'm writing I might as well go ahead and finish telling about
yesterday's show. Bo and Shane go to Meagan's funeral so that Shane can
watch for suspicious people (including Stephano) and Bo can make a big
grieving scene to prove to Stephano that he really loved Meagan. The
funeral home is filled with Stephano's people. Stephano comes in
disguised as the old woman, Mrs. Lafferty. Bo and Shane do not
recognize him. Hope shows up to watch and see who comes to the
funeral. She thinks this may give her a hint as to who killed Meagan.
Bo puts on a big show of grief (tears and everything) while Stephano
(Mrs. Lafferty) is sitting in the back of the funeral parlor. Stephano
has Bo brought to him and he reveals his true identity to Bo. Stephano
tells Bo if he really loved Meagan to bring her killer to Stephano. Bo
says he will. The whole time Stephano is talking to Bo, he has guns
trained on him so he will not signal to Shane that Mrs. Lafferty is
really Stephano. Stephano tells Bo that if Stephano does not get safely
away from the funeral home, he will have Hope killed. Bo says he
doesn't care about Hope, but Stephano can tell from his eyes that he's
lying. Stephano leaves and Bo is furious because he let Stephano get
away. Bo knows that Stephano knew he was lying.

A new bodyguard shows up at Marlena's to take the old one's place.
Marlena thinks that Stephano had Meagan killed (Of course she doesn't
know Meagan was Stephano's daughter) so now she is really scared that he
is coming after her. She asks Mac, the new bodyguard to stay in the
house instead of out in the car. What she doesn't know is that Mac is
one of Stephano's men.

Stephano is planning to take Marlena, Carrie, Samantha, and Eric to
Caracas with him on Friday.

kjm@brl-tgr.ARPA (Kelly J. Benjamin ) (02/12/85)

-------------------------------------------

Stephano took Marlena's twins and told her that she can either come
along with her babies and him to Venezuela or she will never see her
children again. Marlena tells him to get out of his crazy fantasy
world. Stephano tells Marlena that sometimes fantasy can become
reality.

Between the three of them, Shane, Bo and Kimberly have found out
that the prism is coming in from Siberia with the two lead skaters. The
prism is frozen inside an ice sculpture, which will be given away as a
door prize at the ice show. Meagan was to have the winning ticket, but
now that she is dead, Jimmy Porterfield will hold the winning ticket.

Hope got a job as a security guard at the ice arena, where the
ice show will be held. She got the job so that she could get Shane and
Bo into the backstage area of the arena.

Bo found Melissa and brought her home. She was arrested, but
released to her father's custody. She has not seen Pete yet, so she
doesn't know that Pete and Ivy are lovers.

Larry Welch killed Meagan. He was having a nightmare about it
the other day. Bronsky and Larry were in the hot tub room at the Body
Connection. Bronsky left and Larry was putting on his robe getting
ready to leave. Meagan comes storming out of the utility closet
screaming at Larry about how she had just heard everything Bronsky told
him. She said she was going to kill Larry for what his father, Victor
Chervot, was doing to her father. (Chervot altered the prism so it
would blow up the whole town. Stephano wants the prism to produce the
operation he needs to get rid of his brain tumor and save his life.)
Anyway, Meagan was hysterical. She tried to push Larry into the hot
tub. Larry pushed her away from him and she hit her head against the
wall and died. Larry got scared and didn't know what to do, so he put
her in the hot tub and then turned on the power.

Does anyone out there in netland follow DOOL? I realize this show
has not held the glamor of some of the others like GH and AMC (ABC seems
to have cornered that market), but it consistently wins acting and
writing Emmies and I think it's great.

I'm prejudiced. I've been following it for at least 20 years (generally
I can watch only a few times a year when I have access to a T.V. at the
right time -- haven't gotten around to hooking up the VCR -- and I got
re-hooked in 1983 when I was unemployed for a few months) and still like
it just as much as ever, although I almost lost the faith when Roman Brady
was killed off and left the show.

Anyway, are there any more DOOL fans out there? Anybody who knows what's
going on with the current story line? Seems that whenever there's a
Monday holiday and I get set to watch, it is pre-empted by some sports
event. Yours, in DOOL, R.M.

Yes, I used to follow DOOL until school started up and my VCR started
acting up. I requested a summary of what has been going on a few days ago
because I am about to start watching again, but so far all I have seen are
GH updates. Can anyone help me?

Anyone out there watch Days of Our Lives (DOOL)?? Care to bet that the
pawn that everyone is working so hard for is ROMAN BRADY? Yep, that's
right.

My evidence : We never saw Roman actually dead. Bo left him, thinking he
was dead. Steffano DiMera picked up the "body" and took it with him. Last
we saw, Roman's "body" was on a table in Steffano's HQ. Since Steffano
came back to Salem (and was "killed" in the fire - Phoenix rises again!),
his compound was never raided. Petrov is now running Steffano's empire,
probably for Steffano, who want's to hide for some reason.

Only question : Why does Kiriakis want Roman?

mas@ihuxm.UUCP (Salz) (11/20/85)

Doesn't anyone out there watch Days of Our Lives????
I've been reading net.tv.soaps and all I hear about is
All My Children. Come on Days fans speak up for your rights!!

For those of you who watch Days, and for those of you who are
sick and tired of the same old thing on All My Children, here's
an update on Days of Our Lives......

In an attempt to locate the treasure and the book which contains
information which will put Victor Kyreokus away for life, Shane,
Kimberly, Beau, and Hope set off to Miami. Things haven't been going
as well as expected, though.

Shane, Beau, and Hope found the book, and while Shane went off to decode
it on Victor's computer, Beau and Hope took off to find the treasure. What
they didn't plan on was getting followed by their "buddy" Patch. So, Beau
and Hope located the treasure, and Patch and Savanah were holding them at
gun point on the Kyreokus yacht.

Meanwhile......
Kimberly, trying to keep Kyreokus "busy" so he doesn't kill Shane (Kyreokus
found out Shane was trying to use his computer, and was going to kill him),
decides she's going to have to sleep with the man she despises (Kyreokus), in
order to save the man she loves (Shane). Shane, unaware of this is busily
decoding "the book" only to find that the treasure is really a bomb which
will explode 5 seconds after it is opened. Now, of course, he must go and
warn Beau and Hope. So he escapes the Kyreokus estate (not knowing the only
way this was possible was because Kimberly is "keeping Kyreokus busy") to
rush off to the yacht.

Back at the yacht.....
Everyone arrives, there is a big fight, and in the midst, the treasure gets
knocked open. There is a large explosion, and we were left not knowing
who survived. Personally, I think Beau was the only one close enough to get
hurt or killed, but I won't find out until tomorrow when I go home for lunch.

Anyway, I hope somebody out there is a Days of Our Lives fan and I didn't type
all this in vain. If you are a fan, please let me know, because I go home
everyday for lunch so I can watch, and I can give a weekly update. If I
don't hear from anybody, I won't be typing this in anymore, so....

GOODBYE!
