Does anyone remember the "origin" of the Martin's
youngest son, Joey? Was he adopted or did Kate have
him late in life?

Does anyone know why Jenny left the show? I haven't
seen her doing anything else.

Recently, someone complained about the quality of the
writing on AMC. I agree that it has gone downhill.
They drag out the stories forever - I am sick of
the Tad/Hilary romance.

Well, Kate would have had to have him *very* late in life! Joey is Joe
and Ruth Martin's only child together (not counting their adoption of Tad).

I haven't seen her either but I think she left to do other things. I don't
think it was because of a disagreement or anything. It's too bad they killed
her off so completely!

Baloney! Joey is the little kid (maybe in kindergarden now). I don't know
how he got into the picture, but if you remember, Joey was the one that found
the computer disk! He isn't shown very much.

Baloney? What does that refer to? I know who Joey is. Kate was Joe Martins
mom. She was a little old to have a child Joey's age! I *know* he is Ruth's
child - I remember when he was born - she was *extremely* overprotective as
it was just a short while after Phil had disappeared. If you don't know, why
do you think I'm wrong?

I asked the original question and I do apologize for asking
about Kate instead of Ruth, I did know that much. The reason I
asked it was I vaguely recall that Ruth Martin was raped by
Ray Gardner, I was trying to remember if Joey was a result
of this. I was not a regular viewer at that time, however,
and don't remember the details.

Jenny was killed in a ski boating accident the summer before last, except
that it was no accident.

A guy that wanted her was trying to kill Greg, Jenny's husband, and killed
Jenny by mistake.

I hated to see her go. She was good the the show. I personally don't
think AMC has been the same since.

I believe Philip was also Joe and Ruth Martin's son. He was
definitely Ruth's. However, he died in a plane crash at sea.

Well, Charlie Brent is Phil Brent and Tara Martin's son. Tara is Joe Martin's
daughter. So Phil couldn't have been Joe's son - that would have made him
Tara's brother (half at least). For some reason I think Nick Davis is involved
as Phil's father somehow. Maybe he was just a father figure?

clare@haddock.UUCP (11/11/85)

I think Joey was adopted...
But Jenny left the show because she was written out of the script. The
writers believed that the Jenny/Greg romance was a go-nowhere story line.
G. and J. were too in love to ever split up and too goody-goody to ever
fool around behind each other's respective backs...in short, they were boring!
Who knows what Jenny is doing? She's probably still trying to act her way
out of that paper bag she was trapped in.

I agree that the AMC story line is a little too contrived for even the most
avid fan to accept. One Life to Live is (dare I suggest) more interesting.

Nick was married(I think) to Ruth at one point and Phil was their
son(definite). Tara is Joe's daughter and she has a brother Jeff Martin.
Kate is Joe and Paul's mother.
Charlie Brent's real name is Phillip and was concieved just before Phil went
to Vietnam. Chuck Tyler married Tara to help her out and when they
thought Phil was dead raised Little Phillip as their own.
When he got older he hated Phil and started using his middle name
Ruth was raped by Tad's father and soon
after Joey was concieved (by Joe).
Joe was distant because of the rape and Ruth was over protective
of Joey for a long time.

And that is our history lesson for today boys and girls.

Presently --

Andrew and Hillary are a thing now.
Nina heard Andrew call Palmer 'Father' and went nuts.
Hillary got Tad off the hook after he rigged the Univ.
video system so he could be seen all over campus begging her
	to forgive him.
Dottie is planning some sort of revenge on Hillary.
Erica went to the 'Woman of the Year' with Jeremy's friend
	after Tom turned her down.
Brook sent a babysitter over for Laura while Tom was there.
She hadn't checked the references so Tom is suing for custody.

Question:
Why did Paul call Kate just Kate instead of Mom?
I don't remember the explanation for it.

*You are quite right that Tara is the daughter of Joe Martin. And you are also
*correct that Charlie Brent is the son of Tara and Phillip Brent. Nick Davis is
*Phillip Brents natural father and Ruth's sister-I think her name was Gillian-
*is his natural mother. Ruth Martin was only an aunt.

The * was some mail I received - it's also what I fuzzily remember. Does
anybody know what happened to Ruth's sister and other details? I wish they
had someway to see some of the old shows - like the ones when Erica, Phil,
Tara and Chuck were the young ones on the show!

> I believe Philip was also Joe and Ruth Martin's son. He was

Ok, let's get this straight. Ruth had a sister (don't know her name)
who had Philip by Nick Davis. The sister was presumedly unwed or
otherwise unable to raise Philip, so Ruth did.

Ruth later married Joe Martin, father of Tara and Jeff, brother to
Paul Martin, son of Kate Martin. Ruth and Joe adopted Tad when he
was young (not knowing about Tad's parents, who "popped" on the
show later as Ray and Opal Gardner), and had Joey (who was NOT a
result of Ray raping Ruth).

And before someone asks, the Tyler line: Charles Tyler was wed to
someone long before Phoebe English. By that woman, he had a child
who grew up to be Chuck Tyler's parent. I don't think Chuck's
parents ever existed on the show -- possibly they "died" when he
was young. Meanwhile, Charles & Phoebe got married and had Anne
and Lincoln.

To further confuse parentage, Tara & Philip "marry" themselves before
Philip leaves for war. She becomes pregnant, and marries Chuck to
give the kid a name/home/etc. Then for years we watch this family
to see when Little Philip (aka Charlie -- he changed his name to honor
"my real dad" -- besides, he resented Philip returning and breaking up
his folks) will learn who his dad really is.

Gee, sounds like a soap, huh?

Nick Davis and Ruth's sister Amy had a teenage affair. When Amy became
pregnant, Nick left town. Ruth and her first husband, Ted Brent, childless,
adopted her illegitimate nephew, Philip (Amy's child by Nick).

When AMC started, Nick had just returned to Pine Valley, sending Amy into
a tizzy. Eventually, Nick figured out that Philip was his son by Amy. He
wanted to claim paternity, but Ruth, Amy, and Ted fought him until, finally,
Ted was killed in a rainy car accident trying to prevent Phil from finding
out the family scandal.

Incidentally, at this time, Amy was married to Lincoln Tyler. I don't know
what ever happened to her or to the marriage.

Anyway, the widowed Ruth married Joe Martin, making Phil and Tara step-
brother and sister. However, since they had had a long-term love rela-
tionship, they continued despite their new relationship.

Somewhere along the line, Phil found out that Nick was his real father and
after a period of hostility, decided to acknowledge him as his father.

Soon after this, Phil and Tara "married" each other in a secret ceremony,
and on their "wedding night", she became pregnant with Charlie. Phil was
promptly shipped off to Vietnam and declared missing in action. On the
rebound, Tara married Chuck to give her baby a name. They named him after
his real father.

When Phil was miraculously found in Vietnam, he returned home, caused a
split between Chuck and Tara, married her, claimed his son, and was killed
in a plane crash in the Bermuda Triangle. Little Philip didn't like his
real dad until after he died (of course), and insisted on being called by
his middle name, Charles.

And that is the long-past history of the Brent-Martin connection. Charlie
is both Ruth's and Joe's grandson by separate children from separate
marriages.

(this has been kindly provided by my wife, a long time AMC addict who has been
watching the show since the beginning - I have only been addicted for six
years, not nearly long enough to know of such wonderful goings on.)

The local TV supplement to our newspaper states
that Kim Delaney is currently in Israel filming a feature
film titled 'Delta Force'. She also appears in the current
film 'That Was Then...This Is Now' starring Emilio ('St.
Elmo's Fire') Estevez.

Shouldn't that be Emilio ('The Breakfast Club') or ('Repo Man')
  Estevez?

ps Joey was NOT adopted. He is the Martin's (Ruth and Joe's) son.
Remember how SUPER protective Ruth was when he was born? She
was neurotic and wouldn' even leave the house.
