Can someone tell me how to get the 'GRID' to work in MacPaint?
I have tried selecting it in combination with most of the options
available selected at one time or another with no success.

Can someone give a quick summary of how to invoke the GRID feature
and in what ways it manafests itself?

			Thanks,
			-Abdul-

PS. For some interesting pattern generstion try putting a
few dots on a blank MacPaint screen, select the whole screen
(double click the selection rectangle), and type COMMAND-E
(Trace Edges) multiple times or until the screen fills.

GRID is used to constrain the cursor in "GRID" increments. When you turn on
Grid, you will notice that when you select shapes, the paint brush (I think),
etc. the cursor moves in short bounces, instead of a pixel at a time. It is
fairly useful for making objects line up.

If your MacPaint is working correctly, the effects of grid should be
obvious. Whenever the check appears beside grid on the menu, the
following effects should be noticeable:

1. In the rectangle selection mode, the endpoints you can chose are
only allowed to map to the grid points. The grid points appear to be
exactly eight pixels apart.

2. When drawing lines, the endpoints are only allowed to fall on grid
nodes.

3. In any mode where framing is based on rectangles or endpoints must be
specified, these points get mapped to a grid node. The ellipse,
rectangle, and polygon modes all exhibit this behavior.

If you don't notice these effects, then you have a different version
than I. I have used grid extensively and had no problems with it.

Do you (or anyone else out there) know of a way to change the grid
spacing in MacPaint?

What effect does the grid have on text? Does it only permit the bottom
pixels of the characters to lie on grid "lines"? If so, this would be
useful when trying to line up text with drawings in MacPaint. I haven't
been able to do this effectively.

I have found no method for altering grid distance, although this would
be nice. (Think about it for MacDraw, Apple folks!) I have been able
to get around this by judiciously toggling the grid mode when it gets in
the way.

When text is placed in grid mode it seems to place the top left corner
on a grid node, rather than the bottom left. It will line up this way,
though, just as well as the other.

MACdraw does allow you to vary the grid spacing. You essentially can design
your own custom ruler in inches or centimeters, and can specify the number of
major markings and minor markings to use in the ruler. The number of minor
markings then determines the grid spacings. The rulers can be visible or
nonvisible.

I have been using a pre-release of MACdraw quite extensively of late, and for
the things I have been I doing, like machine room diagrams, floor plans, and
other technical drawings, I just couldn't do without it. It's an excellent
program. I'll post a more detailed review when I get a chance.
