Kay reportedly was recruited heavily by Apple chairman Steve Jobs but apparently convinced Jobs to let him do most of his work out of his home in Los Angeles. An Apple spokesman refused to comment Thursday. When Kay left Atari earlier this month, he said he wanted to "persue some very basic work in artificial intelligence." Kay is best known for conceptualizing the "Dynabook," a small computer that would seem as much a part of a person as his arm or leg.
